The Eastern Shore in Winter (Still Can’t Wait for Spring)

Winter Sunrise on the Eastern Shore

Winter Sunrise on the Eastern Shore

On December 26th I’m done with sleigh bells, the endless loop of ads for doorbuster sales and songs about the joys of a winter wonderland. At midnight on January 1, when the last note of Auld Lange Syne disappears into a champagne toast, I’m ready for spring. If I had my way winter would last exactly 31 days. Of course, balmy weather is just a plane ride away, but I want more than one week of 75 degrees before plunging back into days when 45 is a heat wave.

As much as I long for spring, I can’t deny the beauty of a brilliant sunrise and sunset over snow, farmhouses, fields of foraging geese and a workboat steaming toward a snow-covered dock. It will have to do for now. To quote one of my favorite people, spring will be here before we know it. Until then, enjoy these pictures of Maryland’s Eastern Shore in winter.

  1. These are all beautiful but the winter sunrise is breathtaking!

    • Thanks, Idrissa! I’m going to take a class this spring to learn how to do more than point and shoot!:)
