The Eastern Shore of Maryland – More than Seafood and Shopping

The Eastern Shore of Maryland – it’s more than crab houses, seafood restaurants, dock bars, charter fishing, long drives to the beach and outlet shopping.  Between the nine counties that begin near the Pennsylvania border, skirt along the edge of Delaware and end in the southern part of the region where Maryland and Virginia meet, you’ll find farms, cornfields, vineyards, wineries and breweries. You’ll see horse farms, and those that raise buffalo, emu and alpacas.  At the end of long country roads there are grand estates dating back to the colonial era, a Russian compound, and homes owned by the newly rich and sometimes famous. The Shore is rich with history; it’s home to  the oldest courthouse in continuous use in the state of Maryland. Portions of the Mason Dixon Line cross the area. At Washington College, founded in 1782 and named for the nation’s first president, George Washington served as a member of the Board of Visitors and Governors until he took office. Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman were born on the Shore, as was baseball great Jimmie Fox. Take a look at the other side of the Shore and enjoy the show!
